"One Luck Frog" - Steve's Story

The Start of the Lucky Frog’s Triathlon Club, by Steve Wilson

Three years ago I was given a 5% chance of living.  unknowingly I suffered two silent heart attacks and was having my third. I thought I was catching a cold.  I told my wife that my chest hurt she suggested that I go to the hospital, I said NO! Two days later I was so weak I couldn’t stand up to put my clothes on.  Finally, I let my wife drive me to the hospital.

I was rapidly going downhill.  My heart was failing and I was put on life support, so my wife was told to pray and call in our family because being a diabetic a heart transplant was out of the question.  Just stabilizing my heart would take a miracle. They did not think I would walk out of the hospital alive!  I am told that my wife stayed by my bedside talking and playing my favorite “Eddie From Ohio” music.  Thru my coma I must have heard her and the music for my heart started to pump on it’s own. My doctors discovered that my “LAD” was 98% blocked and they operated and put a stint in!

I was brought out of the coma to discover what I had gone thru, that I shouldn’t be with us today! I was Only 43! I am thankful for each new day I am given and now challenge myself to new heights. Life is too short and often taken for granted.

I have just finished my first sprint triathlon and I intend to do many more, while letting people with Diabetes and heart disease know that life is not over and you can still challenge yourself and live a wonderful, fulfilling life!

I have decided to start a triathlon club,  “The Lucky Frog’s Triathlon Club”! The club motto in short is, "To Promote A Healthy Lifestyle Thru Swimming, Biking & Running."  We are a multisport club for people of all ages and athletic abilities!
