ontri.com Newsletter - Volume
10 - November 20, 2006
Staying in shape this offseason... As the holidays approach, don't let all your hard work from 2006 go to waste and don't make my usual mistake and wait until new year's day to get started. Now is the to time to get going on an offseason training program to help keep those extra pounds off, to build a good base for 2007 and to help prevent injuries. Our coaching staff from BodyZen has created a great offseason program specifically for ontri members that is now available for $55. The program offers a mix of stretching and yoga, strength training and cardio workouts and includes online coaching so you can ask questions of the coaches along the way in our online coaches forum. The program is a great way to prepare for your 07 season. When you log in to ontri, click on the "change my training plan" link under the quick links on the home page and you can get started today with the offseason program or any of our other training plans.
Member of the month... Please join me in congratulating Dan W. of Portland, Oregon as November's member of the month. Dan exemplifies the ontri spirit with his willingness to share stories, his support of other ontri members and his enthusiasm for triathlon in general. Dan is a first year triahlete and quickly got hooked on the sport completing several sprints in 2006 and in September he took it up a notch and finished his first Olympic Distance race with great race reports for us to enjoy along the way. Thanks Dan for helping make ontri such a great community and congratulations on a great first year as a triathlete. We wish you many more and please continue to keep us posted with your inspiring race reports.
Improving ontri.com... We continue to improve our online community and as always we welcome any and all input so please keep it coming. Recent highlights include:
At the end of August we launched the long awaited nutrition module. This allows all ontri members to log their food intake as well as share recipes with the community. Tracking your nutrition is a great way to keep yourself accountable for those extra calories (extra important during the holidays) and will help you keep off the extra pounds. As many of you recall from the February newsletter, I was able to take off nearly 10 pounds in 8 weeks just from logging everything I ate. It really made me think before I popped in any unnecessary calories. With the addition of the nutrition module the logging process is made easy and you can run reports to show your total calorie intake for a time period along with the percentage of fat, carbs and protein. If you haven't started already, check out the nutrition module. Try logging your nutrition for one week and I think you'll be amazed at what you learn.
We also recently added the ability to log your body weight, height and heart rate information. There is a quick link to this from the home page under "trainer" and you can update your body weight daily to keep track of the trends over time. Keep in mind that body weight is only one variable and for those who are adding a strength program it is not uncommon to see your body weight increase even though you are losing body fat.
For those who are tracking their weight with ontri, you can also opt to enter the public weight loss competition. The weight loss competition is an ongoing event to help add some accountability and a little fun to those who are trying to shed pounds. You can view the entrants over any time period to see who has lost the most pounds in that period. If you opt to enter the competition, other members will be able to see your body weight so if you are shy about that you can still track your weight on ontri, just don't enter yourself into the competition. Good luck contestants!
