ontri.com Newsletter - Volume 11 - March 12, 2007

Welcome to the March 2007 edition of the ontri.com newsletter. It reached 60 degrees this weekend in Boston, up from a brisk 6 degrees when I woke up Friday morning which means...here we go again. Another spring is here and another triathlon, marathon and cycling season is upon us. There was still some ice on the Charles River when I did my loop on Sunday but hundreds of runners were out including many groups doing long runs in preparation for the Boston Marathon next month. I couldn't help but be a little envious of the spring in their step while painfully aware of the sluggishness in my own. But then I remembered - that was me last fall as I approached my marathon and I was reminded that we can all get there with smart, consistent training. Like a true Red Sox fan, always the spring of hope.

With the new daylight savings in place, its time to get some races in the calendar and get the body moving. Of course, looking at the competition reports on ontri, I realize that many of you are off to a great head start but for the rest of us, the time is now. For those who haven't used the goals feature on ontri, I suggest checking it out and setting up some monthly and yearly goals. Once you set up a goal on ontri, you will see the progress bar approaching your virtual finish line as you log your workouts. I find logging workouts the best way to keep me on track with my program and the goals feature helps me check in periodically on how I am doing. It takes just a few clicks to set up a goal. You can get to the "my goals" page from the trainer tab or from the home page under "my training goals." Once there, click on the "add a new goal" link at the bottom of the page, select the start and end date for the goal, the number of miles you hope to do in each discipline for that time period and click submit. Then just log your workouts as you normally do and you can monitor your progress. You can create as many goals as you like and they can be overlapping so you can have goals each month along with yearly or seasonal goals. Only your most recent will show up on the home page but from there you can click on the more button to view all your goals and progress.

New BodyZen Ironman Program and more...
For those of you planning on taking on the greatest challenge in triathlon, the Ironman, we've just launched a new training program with Coach Lee and BodyZen. The program offers an 18 week build up to get you ready for race day including detailed workouts for every swim, bike ride and run and also includes a mix of strength training workouts as well. Each workout offers a detailed summary of the days events and focuses heavily on technique so that each ounce of energy you spend will help you move closer to finish line as efficiently as possible. As with all the BodyZen programs we offer, the Ironman program comes with online coaching so you can ask questions of Coach Lee and the BodyZen staff along the way in the coaches forum.

In addition to the Ironman Program, we offer a Half Ironman (70.3) program, an Olympic Distance program, a Sprint Triathlon Program, a Marathon program and an off season training program. All the BodyZen programs include online coaching and for those who have "met" coach Lee in the chat boards or have used one of the BodyZen programs, I'm sure you know how helpful it can be to have one of the sport's leading experts in your corner. To sign up for a training program with ontri, log in to your account, click on the trainer tab and then click on "change my training plan."
