Discussion: How to convert meters into yards?

Subject: How to convert meters into yards?

Message: I have been racing in meters lately for track meets. Is a meter one yard plus 4 inches? I took this in 7th grade and can't remember the conversion. Help, please. Multiply the metric distance by________ to get a yard. I realize my results won't post anyhow because they are in seconds and 10ths of seconds, but it would be nice to know how far I am running for a 1500 meter run. Diana

Message: If you go by your basic track and 400 meters= 440 yards, 1 meter= 1.1 yards.

Message: Hi Diana - Also, you can also google the distance-you-have-done to distance-you-are-interested-in; there's an incorporated calculator in the search engine. i.e., if I google the phrase, "1000 yards to meters". It came up with "1,000 yards = 914.4 meters". I use this [google] for everything, well, almost everything. Cheers and happy running!

Message: THANK YOU, all. I just run the distances, and compare times from last meter event, but it is nice to know the conversions. By the way, I ran the 50, 100, 200, 400, 800, 1500 meter events, and finished off the meet with the 1500 meter race walk. Came away with 3 firsts, 3 seconds, and 1 third. Others could not believe I did 7 events in a row. Hey, some had 3 heats, which gave me time to rest in between. Other runners specialize in either sprints or longer distances. Those are the smart people!
