Message: Hello everyone im new at this whole triathalon thing and i have a couple questions. First, i will be competing in a .5 mile swim, 10 mile biking, and 5K run triathalon in september. My whole life i have been a power lifter who played enough sports to maintain staying in good shape. I need to get back my cardio but that wont be a problem. What i need to know from you guys is what specific program i should be on. I weigh 220 pounds with an athletic build, i could lose 10 pounds but no more really. What weight do i need to be and what should i be eating to get my body ready for this event? I need to know what i should be doing to become a triathlete. Thank you so much!

Matthew,

My recommendation is to get a book called training plans for multi sport athletes by Gale Bernhardt. I have been using it for the past 8 months and love it. It has traing plans from sprint tri's to full Ironman. It also has plans for duathlons and off road triathlons. This book also has good information about nutrition. If you are over 200 lbs you will be in the clydesdale division. I encourage you to look up as much info as you can about triathlons. The more you learn, the more you will love it.

You can also use the training plans found HERE ON ONTRI. They've worked for me for 2 years now and I am going to be starting the 1/2 IM program in a week, then on to IRONMAN for April of next year. plug in your race, plug in beginner, and the date of the race and viola!, you'll be going! Good luck man. Ask any questions you see fit. I too am a Clydesdale, not for long though...There's ton's of Tri websites out there. Nutrition, weight loss, there's a ton of stuff. Good Luck!
GO LONG OR GO HOME!
Andy
