Discussion: aproaching rollers

Subject: aproaching rollers

Message: What is the "best" approach (realizing everyone is different) to attack the rollers that one will encounter on the bike course. Is it best to stay in the seat, maintain cadence in smaller gears, stand up on the bike and attack the hill? Just curious what the majority say.....

Message: I would say some of your answer depends on the type of bike you ride. Do you ride a true Tri-bike then you want to stay down in areo bars and on the seat and spin your way (high cadence) up the rolling hills. If you have a Road bike with the taller geometry it would be be up to what is most comfortable and how much energy to want to spend.

I favor the high cadence than pushing a big gear, but I only ride a tri-bike and it isn't that great for climbing hills.

Hope that helps!
Mike

Message: If they are just rolling hills, you should be able to gear up and stay in the saddle. Try to maintain the same cadence as on the flats. Remember to push over the top of the crest before backing off and gearing back down.
