It contains vasoconstrictors and preservatives which can actually make you eyes dryier over time. A natural tear drop such as Systane, Hypotears, theratears can help. Also using flax seed oil suppliments or Fish oil suppliments can help but it will take about 4-6 weeks. before you notice much improvements.

I happen to be a good candidate for the surgery. Try moisturizing drops for your eyes. There are so many brands out there. Your eye doctor has many different free samples. Use the drops when you are not exercizing in case you have an allergic reaction. I would try that route first to make sure you don't have a bad reaction in mid training! Yikes. Best wishes. Check into lasik...I was blind and now I see!
Subject: RE: dry eyes during bike ride By: Dan W. Written on: 2006-05-08 15:49:04 Message: I get dry eyes throughout the year (blessed with allergies). A doctor recommended preservative-free drops to lubricate without the irritation. They don't help with "getting the red out" as well as Visine does (which I still use occasionally for cosmetic reasons), but they feel great. Because the containers are so small (a small box contains 30 or so of them), they would be easy to take with you on training or a race.

They are preservative free and contain no antimicrobial agent. I use these if I forget my glasses when I go for a run and it was windy. I also use them late at night after a pool work out. They are OK for soft contact lenses BUT you have to wait 30 minutes before reinserting them. Longer is better.

They seem to keep the wind and dust away from my eyes and contacts. Not sure if style makes a difference, but I have the daily throw away kind rather than extended wear. Please let us know if the drops help, though. I have the same problem (dry eyes) when driving for long periods. :-) Go Marines!
