Subject: Wetsuit sizing By: charlotte d. Written on: 2006-05-03 19:47:02 Message: Hi everybody,
I am about to purchase my first wetsuit, but online since there is not shop around that carry them. I am gonna go for a blue seventy longjohn. The thing is taht I am between two sizes, in heigth and weight. Which one should I go for. I am 5.8 and weight about 120 pounds.
I night drop a few pounds as the training got more intense.
On their website, its says if you're 5’0” - 5’5” and 117 – 132 lbs (my weight), choose a medium small
if you're 5’3” - 5’9” (ny height) and 123 – 141 lbs, choose a medium
Shoud I choose the on that fit my weight or my height ??
Thanks for any suggestion,
Have a great evening

Don't do it unless exchanges are easy. I went to a great shop with many choices. There was only one out of all of them that really fit just right there is no way that I could have been so lucky as to get the best suit for me without triing it on and I bet the same is true for you.
Taking a shopping trip might be in order.
Good luck with whatever you decide.

I agree with Ron, I think the best thing for you may be to go to your local shops and try them on.
I just purchased my first wetsuit this weekend, and very glad I tried it on. I had to go to a couple of different vendors before I found one that fit me (I am 106 lbs and 5'00'').
One of them the Extra Small was still too big for me!
I then, tried an Aquaman Extra Small that fit me perfectly!
Just a suggestion,
Jael

Jael, I've read your store. I am so sorry that you didn't make it to the end for your last race but you can be proud of what you already accomplished so far and set your mind for your big event in Florida !! Good luck !!

i live in Canada and purchased mine through trivillage. It is a blue seventy full suit. I was in the same boat and called their 1-800 number. Spoke to a very helpful gentlemen. He suggested after talking with him "as the site does" to take the larger suit that falls in your range. if I remember right he was more concerned with my weight. I fluctuiate considering the amount of training I do."180-194" "5ft 10.5" He also told me there was no problem returning the suit as long as I did not get it wet. Getting it wet brings a lot of health issues with it. There are no shops near me that sold them at a reasonable price. They all wanted at least double the cash. The suit fits great. I thought it extremely tight at first but I had never had one on before. Friends felt it fit fine. I then went in the pool and it was great. Cant wait to get to the open water.

Charlotte,
Thank you for your kind words... :-)
I will take your good luck wishes with me....
Note: I am trying my wet suit again on Sunday morning at the Lake, I have a swimming session scheduled with a coach, to swim with my wetsuit in the lake (hopefully for 1.2 miles) to get me mentally ready for Florida.

Subject: RE: Wetsuit sizing By: Tim O. Written on: 2006-05-04 09:07:02 Message: Charlotte, where are you doing your Olympic TRI? As here in Florida the wetsuit season is almost over. It normally lasts from late Oct/early Nov until mid to late April. Dependent upon where your TRI is it may not be wetsuit legal and may be a waste of your money. If you defintely think it is going to be legal then I would take the time to get properly fitted at a store unless you can do the return route until you get the right fit.
Good luck in your Oly and getting a wetsuit.

My tri is going to be in NYC. I am going to swim in the hudson River and from what I've heard, people do use sleeveless wetsuit. Water is cold over here !!
Have great day

Written on: 2006-05-04 10:45:16 Message: Sizes will also vary if you are buying a womens specific wetsuit - seems obvious, but I was shocked when I at 5'9''/125lbs had to buy a very large wet suit. Nineteen makes a nice suit with extra room in the bust and hip areas.
