| Discussion: Pre-race warm up | |
Subject: Pre-race warm up By: Ronald F. Written on: 2006-04-28 20:27:48 Message: I like to arrive at a race early, set up in the transition area then go warm up on the bike and take it up to race speed for about a half of a minute, then same with the run, then the swim.

Subject: RE: Pre-race warm up By: John H. Written on: 2006-04-28 23:35:53 Message: Go for a medium pace run for 10 min., stretch 15 min., then jump in the water for 10-15 min. Turns out to be a 30-40 min WU but I'm loose and ready. Slurp some GU and wait for the horn. Just a note; I like to go off somewhere by myself for the stretch so I can relax and think about my race plans. I hate chatting before.

Written on: 2006-04-29 06:26:33 Message: Set up in transition, get the towel out with my running shoes laid out then unrack the bike and go for a 10 minute ride. Run 5 minutes out and in on the run course and get set up for race. Go for a swim, maybe 20 strokes easy then 10 hard, 20 easy 10 hard then swim back at race pace. Get out and stretch. When my wave is called forward I always swim out 20 strokes hard and straight back then wham, racing with the heart rate all ready accelarated.
Subject: RE: Pre-race warm up By: Jamie B. Written on: 2006-04-29 07:50:52 Message: I set up my transition area then do 20 minutes or so of light stretching. I usually get to the race as soon as they open everything up because I like to have plenty of time. I will jog lightly for 10-15 minutes just to get the blood flowing. After that I put on my wetsuit and make my way to the water and get used to the water. I do some breast stroke to warm up all my muscles. Then I will do about 200-300 yards of fist swimming to focus on getting a full pull with my entire arm. I try to get that as close to the start of the race as possible. From there it is all fun and games!
