Message: Hello Everyone!! Any advice is appreciated. I am training to compete in my first olympic tri, having completed multiple sprints the past two years. I also completed my first marathon in October. I am wondering how I can combine this training with out detracting from my tri-training. Any recommendations are greatly appreciated. I was thinking about combining the programs, 2 days of maintenance runs with one long run on Saturdays versus three days of maintenance runs and one long run on Saturday. Let me know what you think. Thanks so much.

Message: Hi Jaclyn,

as far as i'm concerned, training for a long distance run (such as marathon) will certainly help you for the run portion of the triathlon olympic distance. My point is you'll develop endurance and mental strenght during marathon training. Therefore, you'll feel very easy when running the last 10k of your triathon.

If you plan your first triathlon event on June, my advice is you need to replace one long run practice/month with a bike ride of2/3hrs at least. As long distance running seems to be your strengh, therefore focus for now on building confidence in swimming and biking.
My program would be: 4 parctices/week, 2 swimming, 1 short distance run (Fartlek type of exercise or sprint to increse your HR and VO2 max) and 1 long distance run/bike (alternate) during the weekend. Spend more time correcting and improving your technic than actually collecting mileage.

I guess this sounds good for the fisrt 3-4 months of the year You'll then be able you to increase your mileage prior to the tri season
