| Discussion: Winter training plan? |
Subject: Winter training plan? By: Jeff Umbreit Written on: 2005-10-26 15:44:26 Message: Hey y'all.
I'm a very experienced runner, who logged 3000 miles on the road last year and will probably get in about 2500 this year. I've decided it's time to give multisport a try (tri?) and bought a bike and joined a tri club in July.
I did my first duathlon a few weeks ago and had a blast. I'll be getting into the water as soon as I take a little downtime after New York marathon and will be participating in a winter/spring swim program with my club starting in January.
My question is (didn't think I'd ever get there, didja?), can anyone recommend a winter training plan for someone who's a very fit runner, has been biking 2-3 times/week for the past few months and will just be start to learn how to swim for real (I can 'swim' but have never had any instruction)?
Any help will be much appreciated.
Thanks!!!
Jeff

The pool at your gym is the best place to start. Usually, the swimming coaches charge you per hour. Get a few sessions in then you can put everything together.

The swim program my club is sponsoring will be run by the swimming coach at one of the local colleges. He has been referred to as a "mack-daddy" of swim coaches, so I'll be getting so good instruction.
Best of luck with your training and racing!!
