Message: Thanks for your helpful replies. I have a goal of a half iron man in October. I have done several small (500, 12, 3) and I have run 7 marathons. I have read a lot of different information about training for this type of race. I joined a running club two years and it has really helped me with my long runs. Is this what I should do for the 1/2 IM. I am not much of a biker. I have been out for a couple of 30 miles rides by myself the last couple of weeks but I go in a loop as I am a bit nervous to venture to far out by myself. Thanks again. I was also going to hire a coach, but I believe this website may just see me through.
Mary

I'm training for my 1st H/IM in October too. This site is a Godsend. It's free. We have others to hold us accountable. And the training program backed me right into my Oct 30 race. For the bike...I'm finding some log steady hills and it's really helping my endurance. And then we have a big lake out here in AZ, where we've got about a 1000m loop set up for open water training. Open water is the best! Good luck..Let's compare training notes!

Message: Mary, You obviously have the running background and the 1/2 marathon shouldn't be a problem for you. As far as the bike goes, I recommend getting a long ride in (50-60 miles) every week and a half. Don't worry if you don't venture out too far. I have put in over 800 miles in the last 2.5 months and 80% are in a 5 mile loop right around my house. You will tain best if you are comfortable with your surroundings. Keep loggin the miles. Andy
