Message: My roommates and I are training for our first triathlon so between the four of us we will probably have some wtupid questions, here is my first:
Are triathlon wetsuits much different than surfing wetsuits, and can you use a surfing wetsuit in a race?

Message: Yes and no to that question. A lot depends on the company!! O' Neil makes some real good suits for both. The main difference between them is the flexability in the upper shoulders and chest area allowing you to get a better reach in your stroke. A lot will have varying thicknesses in certain areas where you might get clawed or kicked.
In general if you have a surf suit that you can get a good reach with and it is easy to get out of then I wouldn't put the money into a new one.
