Message: Hello! I am new to this site and find it full of wonderful tips. I completed my 1st sprint last fall and am looking forward to this season!! I really like the training guide the site has provided me. I do have a few questions as to the terms. Could someone please explain and/or tell me where I can read more about "technique training sessions, base building, recovery, and brick training sessions???
Thanks a bunch!

Message: Wish I could, Dawn. I'm new to the sport and to the site myself...but I'll be watching closely to see what the answers are. Best of luck with your training.

Message: From the various books and stuff I've read, they more or less work out as follows:

BASE: Think of these workouts and miles under your belt. These workouts are made to boost your endurance, speed, and strength. THese are moderate intensity level and generally longer distance workouts.

TECHNIQUE: These workouts tend to be easy to moderate intensity with a concentration on good form and technique. For example, working on refining your swimming stroke to be more efficient, finding a smoother pedal stroke, or working on the form you run. I'd imagine a coach would probably be most beneficial for these workouts.

BRICK SESSION: A multievent workout...like a bike ride followed by a run. Most of the stuff I read recommends only doing one a week, at most, to help avaoid injury.

RECOVERY: Exactly what it sounds like....a rest day (if you need it) or very light excercise for a given time limit at an easy intensity. It's meant to give you body time to recover after strenuous workouts.

I hope this helps some....this is my understanding of them from the books/resources I'm usuing to help me train. I'm a newb myself, so if anyone more seasoned has better explainations, please share them. I wanna make sure I have it right, and if I don't, to fix myself.

Train hard!!
