Message: Hey guys, I feel like I can share this. Two weeks ago things in my life got really hectic and my training totally dropped off. I haven't met any of my goals for the month, my fitness level has dropped, and I have put on non-muscle weight. I have my first tri in three weeks and I'm upset and stressed about this situation. I know that I need to taper before the race, but I also didn't manage to come anywhere near where I wanted to be by now. It's a sprint: anyone have any training suggestions or plans that might help put me a bit ahead of where I would be if I did it now?

Message: Corwin,

Quit worrying your timing is near perfect for letting your body heal a bit. If you are still in need of rest take a couple of more days off but start eating correctly now. Your race is July 15 so just get back to training, mostly speed work at moderate distances 4 or 5 days a week until July 10th then taper again. You'll be ready. When you need a break take it worrying will do much more harm than good.

My "A" race is the week after yours and I am going through a tired period and therefore taking some time to heal now and will likely build and recover one more time after this.
Letting the mind and body recover from the training is when we are really building the strength it's just part of the process.

Message: The funny thing about worry is that it only gives more life to the problem. You've only been off two weeks, which really isn't that bad at all. It obviously very driven (boxing and rowing would require it), so your stress is understandable. Just get back into training, follow your plan, and focus on the good side of what you're doing. You'll find after a few days you are in better shape that you thought - and that will be exciting!
The week before your race you will still want to taper (workout at, say, 40% of normal time/distance, maybe a little less), and your body will be fired up and ready to go! And, once you get back to training you will feel better, too - good luck - you'll do great!
