It is basically an anti bonk and it helps prevent lactic acid if used properly. I have used it for 13 years now. I actually switched to accelerade one summer and noticed a lot more muscle fatigue on my long rides and races. There is a ton of info on protein and carbs during racing and pretty much everyone is different but what gatorade and powerade researchers have found out is that you need carbs first and sodium second. That means that a drink that has a 5:0 carb to protein ratio will actually benefit you more in the long run then a 4:1 like accelerade.
