Message: I have been dealing with a shoulder injury for about 5 months. I am finally getting relief from acupunture, stretching, and off time. Can anyone suggest any training tips for coming off of an injury. I haven't been able to do any swimming, biking, or running. I am now just starting to train.
Thanks,
Chelsea Paul

Message: Chelsea,
I wish I had some tips but have no experience with that.
I just wanted to wish you all the best on your way to recovery and during training.
Take it one day at a time and know that you will get there whatever goal you set for yourself.
Stay mentally strong and focused...you can do it.
By the way, I am a strong believer in acupuncture, it is an incredible science!....Good call trying it!
Good Luck,

Jael

Message: Have you had any Physical Therapy for your injury? If not, I would suggest you seek it out. I had a long-running ankle injury that I kept thinking would get better on its own. I finally went to see a sports medicine specialist (orthopedist), who wrote me an Rx for PT. After about 6 weeks of PT, it's almost as good as new. A good PT can also advise you as to how much and what type of exercise is okay for your injury.

Good luck, hope your shoulder is feeling better soon!

Message: Hi. I was out of sport for 2 years because of a shoulder injury and I think I can say that if you are finding relief from massage and acupunture then is the problem one of nerves or in the neck? Most of my shoulder pain was a result of the nerves bundles being all interwined ith muscle and required a heap of super painful rubbbibg and stretching.

When riding your bike don't put pressure on the heel of your palms because it will jolt through to the shoulder. Keep you arm swinging to a minimum of motion when running and when you swim don't over reach, DO NOT use a pull bouy or paddles.

That's the best I can recommend. Good luck.

ps

Are you doing light neck stretches and shoulder and peck stretches before you train?

Message: Thanks Jamojman! What great advice! It does have everything to do with the nerves. There is no tear or extreme pull. It's more about overtraining and severe muscle tightness. I also think I have to look at the fit of my new tri bike for when I first got on the bike this is when the injury started to become potent. Also I have the habit of not bilateral breathing............so I am working on my form. Stretching and deep tissue massage is what I am trying. It seems to be giving me the most relief.

Message: Last year I had a recurring shoulder injury. I was swimming flat and all my pull was coming from the shoulder. I could not reach my arm over my head with-out big pain. I was three weeks out from my olympic distance tri and thought I'd have to drop-out. I found a great ART practitioner who was also a chiropractor. ART is Active Relief Therapy. It is more than massage and physio. It is like chiropractic for the muscles.
I did my race with-out any shoulder pain.
Good Luck

Message: Active Release Technique is amazing for situations where muscle and nerves are interfering with one another.
