Subject: race date change!! - how to adjust training?

Message: OK, I may be over-reacting, but I just found out that my event date got moved up by 3 weeks. This may not be a big deal for some people, but this is my first sprint tri and my first experience with ANY of these sports. Although I wasn't starting totally from scratch from a cardio standpoint, I am definitely still building my endurance to be able to complete. I am using the training plan from this website that gives pretty specific workout guidelines for each day based on the date of the event I plugged in when I started training.

How am I supposed to go back now and cut 3 weeks out of the training plan?? Which 3 weeks of workouts are expendable? The new date is now 9 weeks out rather than 12.

My current fitness level allows me (on a good day) to complete the required race distances in the individual sports without stopping for a break (and not taking into account race conditions like hills, open water, and throngs of people), but I am not able to do that consistently and my speeds are slow. I haven't gotten to the point of trying any bricks.

Help! I am feeling a bit sabatoged in my preparation!

Message: Leslie,
have no fear, your ontri folks are here! (Ha! Ha!-it rhymes... :-)

You should be ok, what I would do if I were you would be to reeenter the date into your training program here at ontri and go from there. Just follow the schedule and pick it up from where you left off...you should be ok with endurance...etc....
Just imagine that you were sick for three weeks and that you could not train.
I understand you are trying to build your endurance, cardio etc...but your body will adapt to alot more than what you think.. believe me....
The key is NOT to Panick....you will be fine....

Go to the race, do your best and have a great time!

Message: Holy cow - yeah I'd agree, that would be quite enough to rock my boat for sure. But don't panic ... you really do have plenty of time. You still have 9 weeks, which is enough since you're already in good shape.

If it were me, I'd adjust the date on my training plan, and make sure to do the bricks when the schedule dictates, those are so key, not only for endurance, but to get your body used to moving from one to another.

As for slow speeds - welcome to the club! Just train consistently and you'll do GREAT!

Message: Hi!

I am completely new and I am jumping in here. I have started training for a race on August 20th and I am starting from a base of no swimming (although I know how and speed swam for a few years), an hour biking (or less) and an ability to run distance but one lazy @ss has prevented me from doing more than a couple runs in the past few months.

We can do this...we have nine weeks to go and they will be fantastic!!!

You have done extremely well to come this far and don't let it rattle you.
