Written on: 2006-06-22 02:14:07 Message: i am just starting out after a long period of time off. i am back in the running swing and am loving every minute of it, problem posed though, i now have bilateral stress fractures in my legs. i am competing in the great lakes relay in july (14,15,16th) after i return from that i have to take some time off from running to let my self heal. i am looking for some work outs to keep me in shape and am looking for maybe some tips for the bike. my boyfriend is big on the bike thing and i am just try to get started. he is doing a du in july next year and i want to do the sprint tri. i fiqure take time off from running will help me get into the bike and the swimming aspect of my workouts. i am out of my element with these HELP!!!

Subject: RE: help for the young :) By: Ty D. Written on: 2006-06-22 17:57:33 Message: I would really focus on the swimming until your stress fractures heal. Biking is much easier on your body, but it still creates further stress on the bones in your leg. This is coming from a athlete and a physician. I don't know where your stress fractures are, but like I said before, I would definitely stick to more swimming, at least initially. Then slowly work your way back onto the bike. And later, run. Not giving your body adequate time to heal will just cause more injury and a longer time of being on the couch.
