Message: i have read some of these messages about the tranisition and I am confused. are the shoes you wear for the bike, the same you wear for the run? I have a mountain bike and plan on buying a race bike, will the race bike have "holsters" for my shoes? Please help me understand this, and from the swim to the bike, do you wear your bike gear under your wetsuit?

thanks

jon

Message: If you are buying a race bike the odds are that you will put clipless pedals (pedals you lock into) on your bike. These pedals require bike shoes. Clipless pedals are more efficient and let you have a proper pedal motion. If you want you can put traditional pedals on a bike and then just use your run shoes. My opinion, if you are going to do anything longer than a Sprint Tri then get bike shoes.

Bike gear under your wetsuit is a personal preference. You will obviously wear your tri/bike shorts, but I personally don't wear my jersey. I don't think it costs me time putting it on after the swim, but others may argue that it will add to your T1 time. Do what feels most comfortable to you.

Message: Jon,

I wear tri shorts and a sleeveless bike jersey under my wetsuit and for the entire race. Just what is in my photo. For the bike high quality bike shoes with carbon fibre soles then I change to running shoes for the run.
