Discussion: How many laps = a mile?

Subject: How many laps = a mile?

Message: Hi, I'm a newbie to the triathlon scene. I've completed a couple of marathons and 1/2 marathons in the past and I'm looking forward to my first triathlon. I was wondering how laps in a 25yd pool equal a mile. I've been given a few different answers and I was hoping to find a number that is fairly consistent.

Message: A mile equals 1600 meters. Most pools are 25 meters in length. So, a mile would be 64 lenghts, or 32 laps in a pool.

Message: Many pools will have this posted nearby, to address its own specific numbers. You will always get a small range of numbers, since pools will vary slightly in length.

Message: 1 mile = 1760 yards. In a 25 yard pool 70.4 lenghts or 35.2 laps = 1 mile.

Message:
Check the length of the pool you are using. The pool at my gym is 75 feet (25 yards or 22.86 meters).
