Message: Doing my first Tri. My indiviual events are fine, but going from biking to running my legs are crampy and feel like logs. It takes aleast a mile to feel okay. Any suggestions how to shake this off?

Message: Try gearing down into your small chainring and "spinning" for the last few minutes of the bike to help loosen up the legs.

Message: hey bill...the best way to get over that feeling is to practice it. Doing "brick" workouts will help. Brick workouts are a simulated bike-run transition, so you would do, let's say, an hour bike, followed immediately by a 20 minute run, or so (just enough to get your legs used to it). do that a couple of times before your race and your legs should be much better equipped to handle the transition. Good luck.

Paul.

Message: Good idea Stacy, I do that too.
Bill, I also do a couple( 4 or 5) lunges as I'm heading out of transition. My hips always feel as if they're leading the way when I come off the bike, and the lunges seem to help me "plumb up" again.
I'm sure you're gonna get a bunch of responses on this one.

Message: Bill,

I don't do brick workouts ever and had no trouble running off the bike. Neither does a friend that placed 4th 45-49 AG Women at olympic distance worlds last year ( her coach won't let her). The key is to be properly trained for both biking and running and to have a bike that fits.

Message: P.S.

I should also say that you will feel much better if you do a good warm up in each event before you start your brick or race.
