Subject: Newbie By: Scott Kaiser Written on: 2005-04-04 19:44:11 Message: I am looking for some advice for a newbie. While recovering from a serious back injury, I was told my days as a hockey player is over, but still have that competive drive to compete in something. So while in a hospital bed, I watch the Xterra championships and decided I want to become a triathlete. Probably not in the fat tire course though. Any great ideas for start on a good base. Right now I am in horrible shape due to the inactive lifestyle of recovering from a back injury, but was given the ok by docs to become active again. I swam in high school, and took spin classes alot for cardio for hockey. Running is a different story though. Any help for a someone taking their first step. And any help on a bike that someone can get on a student budget as well.

It's the swimming and biking parts of a triathlon. Most big events are starting to offer it. Just a thought, good luck, Chris | |
Subject: RE: Newbie By: Jennifer Lachowiec Written on: 2005-04-05 22:59:12 Message: About the bike on a budget: Buy used. See if your area has some sort of bike swap--people ready to sell are willing to make great deals. At the swaps are also vendors (usually) with discounts as well. Look around and check the papers.
