Subject: Clipless Toe Pedals

Message: Hi! I just purchased clipless toe pedals and tried them out today with the bike shoes. Does anyone have any suggestions regarding getting out of them? I must have fallen down about five times today. I can get one foot out OK but the other one seems to get stuck. Thanks!

Message: Beinga bicycle mechanic I get this question all the time!! It is actually best to get used to unclipping one side (if you are at stop signs and lightsthat way you have one foot locked in and ready to go.
If you are having problems getting in and out take a little lube and apply it to the cleat on your shoe where it locks into the pedal. You can also apply a little bit of lube to the peadal. It is metal on metal so if they aren't lubed then weather can have a wierd effect on them. I lube my cleats every sunday while I am cleaning and lubing my bike and chain. I thihk you will notice that this does the trick!!
If not depending on what pedal system you have some have a spring tensioned system that makes it easier or harder to get out of the peadals and one may be tighter than the other that is usually shimano or wellgo type pedals and some kinds of Look as well. If that is the case just see your local bike shop mechanic and he can show you how to set and properly adjust the tensioning to what type of rider you are!!
