Message: Thought I'd try you guys out to see if anyone knows of any obscure websites other than ebay etc. (or if any of you have a bike for sale) for a new "used" bike. Budget is limited (aren't they all?) Looking to spend in the 500-700 range for something that fits me (56 cm ideally) Any help would be appreciated. I'm looking for Tri Specific.
Thanks
A.

Message: Andrew;

You shouldn't have to go used. You should be able to score a Trek 1000 for around $700. Bicycling Magazine recently rated it as a "Best Value". Nice components and a carbon fork. I checked out Bikebarnaz.com (Phoenix) and they've got them in a 56 @ $689.00. Ask for some aerobars for Christmas / Birthday and you've got yourself a fine ride...

Message: Just to add to what Brad said, I have a friend who rode a trek 1000 for the last 6 years and as just upgraded to a Cervelo P2. She rode that trek in every kind of weather, and trained and completed 6 ironmans on that bike. She never had to replace anything other than the usual wear items; tires, brake pads, chain. She only upgraded because with over 15000 miles she thought it was time to retire the bike to easy sunday afternoon rides.

Message: Hi Andrew
As you can see from my member photo i ride an equinox7. I'm very happy with mine. The only thing i would upgrade in the future are the wheels. The little clips that route the cables through the frame can become loose. I had mine replaced under warrenty. Apprantly the previouse model the Hilo had the same problem. If you are not familer with the Bike barn they are a store in Penticton BC the home of Ironman Canada. I would highly recomend them.

Message: Thanks Tom!
I wonder is the Bike Barn a chain? or franchise? Why would you upgrade the wheels? Are the factory to light? I'm a Clydesdale at 215lbs.
Whattya think?

Message: Hi Andrew
The Bike barn is a one store operation, but very reputable.
The wheels are the Bontrager select and are a good set of wheels. When i say upgrade the wheels I'm very happy but would like a set of Zipps or Rolfs for racing. I'm only 150lbs so i could use a lighter wheel set.
I hope that helps. Good luck with your bike shopping
