Message: I was wondering if anyone had any advice for me about my swimming. I think one of my major issues right now is my technique. I waste a lot of energy because I feel I am not swimming with the best form, does anyone have any advice to help me fix this problem?

Thanks,

Jon

Message: Just some key technique ideas to keep in mind while swimming:
Always "stay on your hips" move your hips and shoulders together from side to side, when you want to breathe, "breathe on the roll," as you roll to one side, simply move your head with your body, exposing only just over half of your mouth to breathe, then put your head back in the water before your top arm enters the water.
Use your bottom hand (the one in the water) and forearm to "anchor" and your top arm "throw." Think of running--you move your hips forward and plant one leg (anchor), then you move your other leg past (throw). To avoid shoulder injuries, make sure your hand is below your wrist, your wrist is below your elbow, and your elbow is below your shoulder. This will help connect your back muscles while protecting your shoulders.
As for kicking, with tri's I always just kick enough to keep my legs close to the surface and in line with my body, since the rest of the tri will require strong legs I don't like to waste energy there.
Lots of core training will help keep your body in line when you start to get tired.

Hope all of that made sense and can help!
~~~Jenn
