Message: Hello! I finally did it & finished it yesterday!
Woke up at 3:45 AM, that was really early, still dark, humid & warm as expected in Texas!

Swim: well, I didn't except the swim to be that crazy! Also, that was my first open water try. I was in the last wave of 110 triathletes. I put myself in the back, to the right... big mistake. It was a mess to pass people & at one moment I got a big kick in my stomach, drank water, could'nt breathe... got few other kicks from everywhere & thought I was just going to drawn! :-) I had to concentrate harder to pace myself. Did the first quarter in freestyle & switched to breaststoke when I had more room to swim.
880 yards - 16:02

Transition: I run to the transition, didn't feel so good as I almost puke (sorry...), must have drink too much of that muddy water. :-) Sat, took my time & drank a little gatorade (I wanted something sweet).
1:51

Bike: I felt great, it was really hot but the race was fast & flat.
11 miles - 34:30

Transition: I felt really tired. 1:27

Run: I kept walking & running, couldn't find my pace as I was too tired to run at a 8-9 minutes/mile pace. Went back to my half-marathon pace... :-)
3 miles - 30:17

Total - 1:24:05

Well, I was really happy with my swim time (never swam that quick on a 880 yards before, even at training), but I think I lost few second to pass people. Bike, I know I could have been faster. I thought I will keep a little energy for the run.
Next one, I will give everything I have in the bike as I know I'm not really good at running & I wouldn't be worse (well I hope !!!). Also, I will eat more in the morning, I wasn't hungry & ate just a little piece of bread with water. I think I had no energy after the bike because of that.

It was great, I loved it! I'm ready to do the next one already. :-)

Message:
Karine,

Let see, you drank muddy water til you nearly puked, got kicked from everywhere, got kicked in the stomach, felt like you were going to drown, and you are ready to do it again.

You are either one wild Texan or a triathlete. Oh that's right you are both!
Ron

Message: I love your swim description. I found myself in a similar place this weekend - starting in the back to the right, taking in a lot of water (should we really be sharing our secret bouyancy technique?).

(The lake we swam in no longer allows kids under 5 because "going" in the water and dirty diapers in the water caused park officials close the lake a number of times over the past few years since the water was deemed unfit to be in).

Great recovery on your bike and run. Congratulations Karine!

Message: Nice to see you stick with it and finish the tri after a rough start. Just be sure to pace yourself in the next one. Good rule of thumb for beginners is to relax on the first half of each leg and really kick it up a notch on the second half. If you go all out on the first two then enjoy the 5k walk. It's all about putting the three together.

Good job using T1 and T2 to refocus on your next leg.
