Message: I'm new to the sport and trying to decide what bike to get. Has anyone heard anything about or have any personal experience with the Cervelo Dual?

Thanks for your help!!!

Message: I just got my first road bike myself a couple of weeks ago. I got a '03 Fuji Newest. It's still brand new and since it had been in the showroom for 2 years, it was marked down from it's original MSRP of $899.00 to $500.00. I would recommend going to your local bike shop and looking around, and test ride a couple before you decide. Remember, depending on the distance of your tri, you're gonna be on it for at least 10 or more miles, so you want it to be somewhat comfortable to ride. This month's Bicycling magazine is the 2005 Buyer's Guide as well. You might find more info on the Cervelo in it.

Good luck and good training.

Message: The Cervelo is an excellent beginning tri bike. Triathlete mag has a bike and equip guide, you may want to check it out. I myself have a Trek Equinox, but I had wanted a Cervelo. Maybe as my second bike. This sport is going to destroy my bank account, hahahah.

Message: Thanks for the replies. I have been asking around here in Louisville where I live and some people highly recommend the Cervelo as well. I think I'll take your advice Stephen and go to the store and ask for a test ride/info on fit.

Message: Cannondale also makes really good bikes. Again, I would repeat the advice I gave Justin...and that's to test ride bikes and et on that fits well, both to your body as well as your bank account. There's no sense in spending oodles of money on features you may not really need, especially if it's your first tri. The book I'm basing my workouts on (Triathlon Training in Four Hours a Week by Eric Harr) has a chapter about how much to spend on equipment based on your current fitness level. It's been invaluable so far, and at only $20, not too expensive either. Hope this helps!

Message: Is a mountain bike not as good as the bkie with the thin tires? Excuse me, I don't know the bkie language yet. I have a mountain bike, schwinn older model. I feel this bike is too heavy once I pass 6miles. I really felt it on this past triathlon. help.

Message: A road or sport bike is lighter and faster on the road than a mountain bike. However, off road, the mountain bike is king. It's really a matter of the right tool for the job. Both are excellent so long as they are in their element. If most of the tri's you enter are on the road, you may want to consider a road or sport bike. But keep the mountain bike for the trails.....it's excellent exercise and a good change of pace if your road course training gets bland.

Just my two cents.

Train hard and we'll see ya out there!!

Message: A road bike rocks over a mtn. bike on the roads anyday! And it's a lot less taxing on your quads - you'll need these for the run. On my first tri. I used my schwinn 10 speed from college. Even that was tons better than my Giant mtn. bike. Since then I have purchased a Trek 1000 road bike ($600) and am getting slightly faster speeds than the 10 speed. So.... in summary, if the TRI is on roads, tri (hee, hee) to use anything BUT an MTN bike. Although I still use the mtn. bike in some short rides because I really feel that it's helpful in strengthening. I just can't get much speed on it!
Best of luck!!!

Message: I priced the Trek 1000 as well but fell in love with the Specialized Allez Sport tonight. It's priced over $800 so as a new duathlete, it's a bit out of my budget right now. I'll be riding a mountain bike for my first event (18 miles). I will say that the assistance of some really knowledgable people at the shops I've been to had been invaluable...and it led me to someone I completely trust and will get all of my business from hereon out. Good luck and good training!
