Subject: Ironman Training By: Patrick B. Written on: 2006-06-07 19:25:54 Message: I've run a couple of marathons, and done a few smaller tris (2 sprints, 1 olympic) with another one coming up on Sunday. In the back of my mind, I have always wanted to do an ironman, ever since I saw them on TV, literally crawling toward the finish line, I've wanted to do it. There is no way I can do one this year, I'm not in hte shape i need to be and I have the bar exam in July so my summer is as jam packed as ever. But next year, next year is a possibility.

The big thing I can say is you have to sign up for and ironman about a year out anyway. They fill up so fast. I know there about 300 slots left for AZ ironman 07 all the ones this year are sold out. I'm doing the 07 AZ Ironman and I found a 36 week training guide at triful.com and on this site will be the best ones to follow. good luck on the bar exam

Come on out man, somebody here in our club can put you up for a week or so. Save the Hotel expense. Good luck in July, better you than me.

I had originally thought maybe Wisconsin because I'm a midwest (Missouri) guy, but why not make a vacation out of it? I will keep you updated.
Subject: RE: Ironman Training By: Nick M. Written on: 2006-06-09 15:47:18 Message: Patrick, I just did IM Brazil, it was my first Ironman, it was awesome, I never imaged I could do somthing like that. I've been doing sprint and olympic distance triathlons for the past 2 years and now this. We had one person in our group of 6 that had never done a triathlon, only marathons and he was able to finish IM Brazil. The training depends on how well you want to do. I'm from MN, so a lot of the training was indoors for a while. I swam 2 times a week. I biked 2 times a week, a shorter distance and then longer ones on the weekend. The weekend rides started at about 50 miles and then all the way up to 100 miles. I think we only did 2 100 mile bike rides before Brazil. I would do 6-8 miles runs twice a week. I never got past doing a 12 mile run, I hate running. My goal was to finish and I did. I would suggest Brazil, it was very well run race, the course is pretty flat except for one hill on the run and 2 hills on the bike that you have to do twice. I couldn't believe how many first time ironman participants I met down there at the race. As the saying goes, Anything is Possible.
