Discussion: Finally a new bike!

Subject: Finally a new bike!

Message: I think I've decided (man, I must have been good--my husband approved!) on a new bike. My 30-year-old 10 speed rusty schwinn might just become my "errand bike" after all. I was looking at a Trek 1000 today, and the price was right. My budget is very low, as my first race is in two weeks--what if I hate it? Not likely, but the budget still stays low. Any comments on this bike, or any others for a first timer?

Message: The Trek 1000 is a good beginner road bike. You get a pretty good product for the price. Some bike shops have a trade in clause, if you don't like it or whatever you can return it within a set amount of time. You will get many fun miles out of this bike for the price. I still have mine and use it whenever I want to just go out for a fun ride.

Message: Elizabeth,
good move!
I have a Trek 1000 (WSD) and I love it!
It has been very good to me! I just did my first 1/2 IM in Florida with it and it performed very well!

I just recently (two months ago) got AeroDesign Aerobars and I love it!
I got clip ons pedals last year and it works like a charm as well.
Enjoy the ride and Congratulations!

Jael

Message: Elizabeth;

The Trek 1000 is a very good bike. It was written up in this month's Bicycling magazine as one of their best values... It will also be worth upgrading (adding aerobars, clips, etc) as your skills progress. It will also make an excellent training bike after you upgrade to a new tri-specific bike in a few years... (and you will...)

Brad

Message: I just went and bought it! Yeah!!! They'll have it ready for me this afternoon, aerobars and all. I decided to wait on the clipless pedals until I get used to the bike. I went with the speedometer that has all kinds of abilities, cadence, etc.... now I better make a good dinner tonight before I tell my husband the final number! Thanks for your responses everyone, I'll let you know how I do.

fittings with measurements etc.) ony sells Trek and I think I am going to get the 1000 too.
