Subject: I FINISHED!!!!! By: Denise W. Written on: 2006-06-04 12:51:39 Message: I did my first tri this morning... a sprint (1k swim in the bay, 20k bike and 5k run)...I don' t know my official time.. and really don't care.... what an experience....the swim was tough, since that is my weakest event....I usually get a little freaked out in the open water... but I just kept moving forward.. floated on my back... did what I had to do to finish... I was alot more wiped than I thought for the bike.. the route was flat.. we did ride against the wind a bit... my transition to the run was tough.. I'll have to work more on those... but weird thing...on the run...I experienced something I never experienced running.. and I have done 3 1/2 marathons... I had trouble breathing...I started wheezing....and had to stop to walk.... then I would jog and after a few minutes start wheezing again.. I am a physical therapist... so I know when not to push it...I race walked most of the run.. which disappointed me some...I did notice that I was not sweating either.. which typically I sweat like a pig when I exercise....so on the last stretch I tried to run.. the final 1/4 mile... and when I did cross the finish line...I thought I was OK... I walked down to where they take your chip off... then I started to wheeze again....I really thought I would pass out... it took me a few minutes to get my breathing back to normal.... I am thinking I was not hydrated enough....I don't have asthma or breathing problems when I exercise typically.. it was pretty scary...I did a lot of hyrdating after and ate some carbs... now I will soak in a cool tub with epsom salt and take a nap... take some Tylenol too....over all it was an amazing challenge.... I didn't think I would do another one... but I just might....I read all the info here.. and have learned alot from you all.. thanks for the support.... Denise

Subject: RE: I FINISHED!!!!! By: Teresa S. Written on: 2006-06-05 11:18:32 Message: Congratulations on finishing in tough conditions. I am asthmatic and I know wht it feels like to struggle with breathing. I hope you figure it out quickly because, I know you will be back. Its addictive. And having a few things not go so right will push you to do another to fix those problems and strive for more. good luck and great job!

My official time was 2:23:01.... not too bad... my transition times were way too long.. but I guess that will come with experience....I think I will plan to do another.. my swimming needs to be stronger and transitions more smooth.. but now I know I can do it!
