| Discussion: Can an IronMan be a reality with run/walk segments? | |
Subject: Can an IronMan be a reality with run/walk segments? By: Stacey U. Written on: 2006-06-01 13:12:02 Message: I really really would love to complete an ironman distance event in the next year or two. But, I am not one of those "born runners". Every time I go out for a run, regardless of the distance, it's a true challenge for me both mentally and physically. I have still not gotten over "hitting the wall" during my first and only marathon a few years ago, where I ran the 1st half well, and cried and basically crawled the last 5-6 miles. I'm preparing for a few half marathons this year, in prep for one or two full marathons before taking on an ironman race. I've been looking into Galloway's run/walk practice, and when I've tried it, I seem to do much better mentally, and my run/ walk times are very close to my run time. HAs anyone used a true run/walk interval during a half or full ironman race? If it works, I think this may be my key to successfully training for the run part of ironman. Any thoughts?

Written on: 2006-06-01 15:10:42 Message: Stacey, along the lines with Andy, I would say most of the ironman feild walks some of the run. People try to run between the Aid stations and then walk each aid station. I was at Iornman AZ and many people walk, or are on there hands and knees. It dose not matter what it takes but you get your self accross the line before 12am.
Subject: RE: Can an IronMan be a reality with run/walk segments? By: Roland G. Written on: 2006-06-01 21:28:30 Message: I'm banking on it! I'm doing IM FL this year and I loath running. This year, I'm just trying to learn how to "enjoy" running. I just got a PR at DevilMan 1/2 IM and I walked a little on the 13.1 route...finished at 5:17:42 I think the important thing is just to keep moving forward and believe in yourself....I just keep telling myself that I feel good and that seems to help me.

I'm really nervous about IM FL, it'll be my first IM event. I am doing 3 (maybe 4....haven't decided yet) 1/2 IMs to help prepare myself for IM FL. My next is MussellMan 1/2 in NY (16JUL06)....I'm aiming for under 5hrs, as long as I can keep moving on the run with minimal walking!

Subject: RE: Can an IronMan be a reality with run/walk segments? By: Tom R. Written on: 2006-06-02 17:28:44 Message: I have completed 7 marathons using the run 10 walk 1 method. I qualified for boston using this method with a 3:20. I'm training for Irnman canada in Augest and will be vry happy if i can run the course using 10and 1's. Most of the races i have watched, the run is more of a walk for most atheletes.
