Message: Made the decision, that if there is one thing in life I could not fail at what would it be: so I chose Tri-athalon! Yeah, I am so psyched! I am beginning with the Sprint and it is in 4 months. Who knows where it will lead, just needed a goal. My question is the training and the HRM...is there a website or a book that explains this more. Where to work, when to max out, etc. Also, I used to run, but I haven't in years, and I feel like I am too slow, is there a time restriction on completion (if I walk some is that ok too?)? The swim and bike will be GREAT love both, looking for my love of run to return, any suggestions? Thanks a mil!

Message: Read this article by Mark Allen "working your heart" http://www.xtri.com/article.asp?id=448

if that link doesn't work, go to: www.markallenonline.com
hit "links"; go half way down the page to "working the heart"

just out of curiosity, let me know what you think.

Message: This was a great article and very helpful. As I began running and worked within my heart-rate I experienced less exhaustion, fewer injuries, and overall felt better. Thanks for suggesting this. My first Sprint is on July 30.

Message: A good resource is anything by Sally Edwards. She is a former olympian, 16-time Ironman finisher and a memeber of the Triathlon hall of fame. Her website is http://heartzones.com/ and she specializes in heart rate monitor training for triathletes.

I also read her book 'Triathlons for Women'. Whether you're a woman or not, she gives great instruction, detailed tips and advice for first-timers.

Good luck and have fun!!
