Message: Hey folks!

Yes, I'm a first time triathlete. Am assuming a 'sprint' triathlon is a 10k run, a one mile swim and a 22 mile bike ride.

I ran a marathon 2 years ago and have a clue how to train for that but am not quite sure how to incorporate multi-event sports into the regimen. Also, I haven't seen much discussion in the way of weight training listed for a triathlon. Any thoughts would be much appreciated!!!

Message: Hey Milt;
I am in the same boat as you, I am in my first ever triathalon coming up in May. All I can tell you is that I haven't taken out weight training from my regiment, but I have reduced it. I used to hit body parts sometimes twice a week now I am only doing 3 days of Strength Training and I think it has actually helped me out. For example I will do legs in th morning and then run that night. Like I said I am no expert but maybe my insight might help.

Message: Just so you know, a sprint triathlon is about half the distances you've been assuming. Usually a sprint is about a half mile swim (maybe just a LITTLE longer), 12-17 miles biking, and a 5k run. I don't know much about strength training. I either do some sort of cardio workout at one time in the day and then do strength later, or if I'm in a bind with time I'll do a strength session and run stairs after every set or run a "suicide" in the racquetball court at my gym between sets. I wouldn't do more than three days a week with weights now that the season is getting so close. I'm planning on concentrating on the swimming, running, and biking more now and focusing on weights in the off season. But, I am in NO WAY a professional!! =o)

Good luck and have fun!!
