| Discussion: Entry level bike suggestions | |
Subject: Entry level bike suggestions By: Martin G. Written on: 2006-05-29 20:30:11 Message: What do you guys recommend as an entry level bike? I finished my first tri on a horrible bike and would like to step things up a bit. I've looked at a Specialized Allez and I'm not going to be able to spend much more than that. Maybe a used bike would be better. Do you guys have any suggestion? Where should I look?

I got it at the end of the season for about $500. I put aerobars on it, and it took me through 2+ seasons before I upgraded.

It was one of the top choices for cycling magazine in 2005 for bang for your buck. I have altegra components and it has carbon fiber forks and rear. A bike with the same componentry from Treck would have been $2200. I just added aero bars and finished my first duathlon this weekend. Rode great. I beat alot of people with the high speed tri bikes that people pay 5 grand for and aero helmets. I think you can go overboard on a bike. There is a point where you can spend an extra grand and not really get your moneys worth.
