Message: Just a quick update on all the progress. The weight sstill keeps falling and feel comfortable now at 180 Lbs (From 256!!!) Ran 8 miles for the first time (OK...took me 1 hour and 25 minutes to do it) today and had my first 20 mile bike ride (NOT at the Y) yesterday. After reading all the race reports posted lately and hhaving followed the ontri.com members progreess dduring the race on the Ironman website, I just can't wait for my 1st sprint tri. I have gone over the race in my thought about a hundred times by now (swim to the side, glide, only water, don't get your feet wet, don't forget your helmet, eat the same things the morning of, etc, etc...). My goal still is just to finish the race, but tri-ing is starting to become a real hobby now and I alreeady promised myself to train for an olympic triathlon next year. Happy memorial day to all of you and happy triing. Thanks to all of you!

Message: Leo,
Your excitement is contageous! You sound as if you are ready right now! You are SO going to love your first tri. Something silly is bound to happen, nothing ever goes perfect. With your attitude I know you will just take it all in stride and enjoy the whole experience.
P.
PS. I wrecked my bike at my first race and was planning my next race as I was getting stitches!

Message: Leo,
You are feeling great because you are great!
Like you triathlon has become my hobby, also my sport, my health and fitness program and about half my social life. That's why I don't mind spending so much money and time on it. It is an investment in a happy healthy life and pays great dividends.

Paula,
Was the replacement bike better than the one you wrecked?
What a tough cookie you are!

Ron

Message: Good to hear from another newbie loosing weight. I have lost 30 lbs since my last tri 2 years ago. I am looking forward to do a sprint tri 30lbs lighter. Has to be better, right? My long run each week is 8 miles as well and it takes me 1:15 to do it, so I feel your pain, lol. Being a slow runner in a sport where nearly everyone is faster is tough. But I make up for it on the bike. Last tri I did, i remember passin a lot of people on the bike, then I saw all of them pass me on the run. I plan to at least hold my own on the run this year. Good luck to you in August and make sure you update here often. I am waiting and reading.

Message: Answer to Ron's question about the bike wreck...
I replaced the rear deraullier, brake hood, and handlebar tape and was ready to roll as soon as I healed. There is something to be said for a steel frame!

Message: Leo,
I am so proud of you!
Losing weight, getting healthier, and loving it!
You go, Leo!
Make sure to let us know how your first Sprint goes!
I know you are going to do wonderfuly!
Don't worry about making mistakes. Those can and will happen! It is how quickly you learn from them that counts. It can only make you a better athlete as long as you learn from them.
Don't wait until a year from now for your first Olympic. With your great attitude and your perseverance with your training, you should be able to do one in the next 3 to 5 months. Just aim your sights for higher goals and you will get there.
"Aim for the stars, if you fall short, you will still end up standing higher than most people"....
My coffee mug at work reads: "what would you attempt to do if you knew you could not fail?".
Think about it....do an Oly soon.....you can do it....

I am so excited about you coming down to South Florida with your family! Are you coming to do a race here? Will you be doing the 1/2 Marathon, the full Marathon or the 5k?
Let me know! If you are here, I would love to meet you all for dinner and drinks. Let me know!

Note: Leo, don't be afraid of us getting sick of your posts! No way! Write as much as you want.
It is messages like yours that keep us all going!

Message: Thanks Jael!!
I will think about doing an Olympic Tri soon. I have an office in WPB, I am thinking about scheduling some meetings around that time and hopefully do the 5K or the half. We'll see...I will definetely keep you posted!
