| Discussion: bike shorts rubbing in the run | |
Subject: bike shorts rubbing in the run By: julie w. Written on: 2006-05-27 17:06:25 Message: I've noticed in my brick trainings that my bike shorts are giving me a rub/burn on my inside thighs(an area I'm working on). Does anyone apply some type of wax or ointment before running? Any tips? Or do I need to buy a new pair of bike shorts?
Subject: RE: bike shorts rubbing in the run By: Dan W. Written on: 2006-05-27 17:31:13 Message: What is it that causes the rub? Some shorts have a type of stitching (I'm not sure about the vocab) that rubs you a lot along the seams. Others have a type of stitching that that is more skin-friendly. You may be able to tell by looking at yours, or you could ask someone at your bike shop. If it's not the seams that are rubbing you, I'm not sure. Do they bunch up at all?

Written on: 2006-05-27 23:42:17 Message: Well, because I new to this, I do not know the difference between cycling or tri shorts...mine have a small padded area strictly in the middle(they are comfortable in the run...just the rub burn). And yes, they do bunch up mainly while I am biking. I'll try some of that Body Glide, thanks ya'll.

I was so embarressed to ask someone I resorted to horus of online searches and reading. I use Chamois Butt'r Cream in that area and it works great for both the bike and run. Some people think of it as an application,; others like to treat it as a marinade. The choice is yours :-) My first time doing bricks I was wearing fully padded biking shorts. Ohh, learned that lesson well.

Subject: RE: bike shorts rubbing in the run By: Brad H. Written on: 2006-05-28 20:11:45 Message: Julie, If I'm biking specifically, I'll wear bike shorts/chamois. Whenever I'm going to do a brick workout or a race, I always eschew any sort of chamois. (Nice use of the word "eschew", huh?) At sprint/oly distance, I am comfortable enough to ride with my swim suit (long legged speedo). I feel that the discomfort I feel running with any sort of padding down there cancels out any benefits.

Written on: 2006-05-29 14:44:31 Message: I wear body glide ALWAYS.....under all my bike shorts and under my running attire under the seamed area. I also apply it my nipples to avoid the rawness. I've used other product, but I body glide best b/c it stays longer when wet , etc.

Subject: RE: bike shorts rubbing in the run By: Teresa S. Written on: 2006-05-29 19:21:31 Message: I also suffer from the dreaded chub rub. I thought loosing weight would fix it. It didn't. I lost 30lbs and 7 inches off my thighs and they still rub, its better but not fixed. I also use body glide on my thighs and great. I do not have the mental toughness to deal with that pain and keep running, so I have to use something.
