Discussion: Memphis in May

Message: What do you want to eat after a tri? At Memphis in May Olympic Tri (this past weekend) they have everything--Krispy Kreme to Twinkies to watermelon/oranges to pork sandwiches to the staple--pasta.

The race was great (besides the run). My swim went well; it was the first time using my wetsuit. The start was time trial--each person left 3 seconds apart. What I learned: be sure to BodyGlide your neck, now I have wetsuit hickies. For the 1500m swim was at 19 min.

The bike was the best part. The course is flat on smooth roads. At one point, I held 30mph for a mile--what a feeling! What I learned: drink more water. 1:07 for the 40k.

The run was crummy. It was too hot for me since I travelled down to the humid 90 degree weather from Wisconsin. I didn't even hold my training pace. What I learned: you can't control the weather. 52 for the 10k

Overall, I was 6th in my age group just missing the pyramid trophy shaped like the Grizzlies basketball arena. Time: 2:22. I am super pleased with that. I am gearing up for some distance training before the Spirit of Racine Half in July. Anyone else doing that one?

Message: WoW, I'd call that a mighty studly performance... What I did after my Tri earlier this month was eat whatever I wanted for a week with plenty of cervesa to wash it down. Oh I see, 20, maybe not the cervesa, but anything else for sure.

Awesome job.
